Albemarle, which hod been founded in Richmond, Virginio, in 1887 purchased Ethyl in 1962 from General Motors and Standard Oil Company (N.J.), which hod founded Ethyl in 1924. Following the acquisition. Ethyl Corporation (Virginia) diversified rapidly through acquisitions and odding new product lines. In 1968, Ethyl sold substantially all the business end assets of Albemarle Paper to a midwest paper manufacturing firm. ORGANIZATION: Historically known as a one-product, one-industry company.
