Albemarle, which hod been founded in Richmond, Virginio, in 1887 purchased Ethyl in 1962 from General Motors and Standard Oil Company (N.J.), which hod founded Ethyl in 1924. Following the acquisition. Ethyl Corporation (Virginia) diversified rapidly through acquisitions and odding new product lines. In 1968, Ethyl sold substantially all the business end assets of Albemarle Paper to a midwest paper manufacturing firm. ORGANIZATION: Historically known as a one-product, one-industry company. Ethyl Corporation today is o diversified manufacturer of petroleum and industrial chemicals, plastics, aluminum ond energy-related products. The Company has facilities around the world and employs approximately 16,000 people, it operates more than 60 plonts, most of which make intermediates or oddifives for products that reach the consumer in another form.
