Asbestos Monitoring at Institute Plant
Attached are the results of asbestos exposure monitoring conducted on March 5, 1985 while construction employees stripped approximately 200 ft. of old insulation material from conduit lines inside the No. 2 Powerhouse.
Five construction employees were used to complete the jdb with four insulators to strip the insulation and one laborer to clean up and bag the stripped insulation. All employees wore disposable dust respirators, coveralls, gloves, and boots. The area in which the work was done was a fairly high traffic area; therefore, well placed barricades and signs were set up to prevent passage through the area while stripping was being done. Water spray was used to wet the insulation material prior to stripping.
All samples were found to contain levels of asbestos fibers below the permissible level of 2.0 fibers per c.c. of air. Monitoring was conducted throughout the entire period of time in which the work was done. None of the employees did any work involving asbestos either prior or subsequent to the monitoring period; therefore, it was possible to compute the time weighted average (TWA) exposures for the entire 8 hour work day.
Please notify all employees of their exposure results. If we can be of further assistance, please contact us on Extension 3750 or Extension 5904.
