Teta NCI/EPA Publication on Cancer Mortality and Trends The attached will give you additional Information concerning the recently published National Cancer Institute/EPA three-volume study describing cancer mortality distribution by state and county. Included in this mailing are: A 2/24/84 communication from Ray Rankin supplemental to the earlier one on 2/22/84, which was sent to you by Dave Liebeskind. Data specific to West Virginia and the counties S&UI people live and work in extracted from the NCI/EPA report. As indicated in earlier communications, this data must be approached with some caution because of the manner of presentation and the lack of a data base as regards influencing factors other than geographic distribution. Nevertheless, the data will undoubtedly stimulate thought, probing questions and the generation of any number of hypotheses. Data from the NCI/EPA report specific to "All Cancers Combined" in several West Virginia and one Ohio county is being transmitted with this letter to give you a flavor for what is contained in the study. Karen Eggleton and I are extracting similar data (for the West Virginia counties only) specific to the thirty-four (34) more localized cancer site classifications displayed in the study.
