In view of the fact that the workmen involved apparently suffer ed no ill effect from the tank entries, probably no additional action is necessary. February 5* 1948 Dear Bont We note your weekly letter of February 1 in which you advise that subject construction company dismantled an 80,000 barrel tank apparently without cleaning. You noted that the workmen had been in the tank for seven days with no illness due to the exposure encountered. No special precautions were taken for the cleaning work. As a matter of record would you kindly send us an unobserved tank cleaning report listing names and addresses of all persons enter ing the tank and the number of hours spent in the tank. This information should be obtained very tactfully as we do not wish to alarm anyone. Tancred Steel Construction Company of 512 Lacy Building, Dallas, ^ Texas, regarding the lead hazard involved in the dismantling of leaded tanks at the Carrabelle* Florida water terminal of the defunct Florida Smer^nc,'/ ripe Line. X explained to him the hazards involved and immediately proceeded to Oarrabi.-lj.esf where Friday I contacted hr. I-. d Holley, Foreman for Tonered Steel, and made an inspection of the three tanks to be dismantled. The sludge was wet at the time of my inspection because it was raining, however, I was tcld that it was dry before the roof wan removed. Holley stated that workmen had been working in .his tank for seven days and that to the best of his knowledge there had been no illness due to this exposure. Tank Lo. 6, which is of the same size and construction, was found to be ir eimilar donditlon. Both of these tanws have also been empty for over two . years. The manhole covers-and the hatch covers in the roof cf both of ' these tanks had been removed for severe! months and therefore both tanks were found to be gas free. .
