No. 256 - 1948 December 2 EXTRA COMPENSATION VOTED FOR EMPLOYEES At its November 23 meeting the Company's Board of Directors author ized the payment of extra compensation to each employee -equivalent to six per cent of his total earnings (up to and including a maximum of $6000) for . the first eleven months of 1948. FREIHERR NOW ATLANTIC METAL MANAGER; GETZ TRANSFERRED TO BALTIMORE Henry F. Freiherr has been appointed manager of the Atlantic Branch metal division, in succession to C. V. Gesregan. The appointment vas effective December 1 Mr. Freiherr began his Company career on July 30, 1917 as manager of the lined-products department of United Lead Company. When United Lead became a part of National Lead in 1928, he vas transferred to the metal division of the Atlantic Branch. In 1938 he went to the Baltimore Branch as manager, which position he held until his present appointment. Henry Getz succeeds Mr. Freiherr as Baltimore Branch manager. His Company career began June 18, 1923 in the General Office accounting de partment. In 1925 he moved to the metal department, and two years later went to the Canada Metals blue lead department,, In 1937 he became manager of the Great Western Smelting Company, Ltd., a Canada Metals subsidiary in Vancouver, British Columbia, and in 1943 vas transferred to the Toronto office of Canada Metals. CLEVELAND DIRECTS BUFFALO OPERATIONS Operations of the Buffalo Branch are now directed from Cleveland. This will put under one headquarters the territories formerly served by the Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Buffalo Branches. E. E. Busse, Cleveland Branch manager, will supervise the consolidated territory. GESREGAN HONORED AT LUNCHEON C. V. Gesregan, manager of the Atlantic Branch metal division, who is retiring at the end of the year after forty-six years of service, wa.s honor guest at a luncheon in the Lawyers Club on November 30. J. G. C. McNair, manager of the Atlantic Branch white Iiud "dii.ixj.intt, who acted as master of ceremonies at the luncheon, presented Mr. Gesregan with several gifts on behalf of his associates. Mr. Gesregan started his Company career on May 19, 1902 as a cleric in the Atlantic Branch. He became successively a salesman, sales super visor in the die casting department and superintendent of the Crooke Works. He was then made purchaser of secondary metals for Atlantic Branch plants. In 1933 he became assistant manager of the Atlantic Branch metal division and manager in November of 1938. He has been a member of the Company metal sales committee since 1939. Melville, Buffalo Branch manager, who is retiring after thirtyfive years of service, was honored by his associates at a buffet supper recently in the Buffalo Athletic Club. He started with the Company on March 1, 1914 as assistant manager at Buffalo, and was, appointed to his present position in 1927. Mr. Melville is a past president of the Buffalo Paint, Varnish and Lacquer Association. REISER NOW ASSISTANT CHAIRMAN OF MINING COMMITTEE Allan R. Reiser has been appointed assistant chairman of the Company's mining committee. Mr. Reiser started his National Lead career as general superintendent of Titanium Division's MacIntyre development in September 1947 and was promoted to assistant plant manager on January 1 of this year. KRUEGER HEADS BAXTER SPRINGS OPERATIONS Harold A. Krueger has been named general superintendent of the Baxter Springs, Kansas, operations of the St. Louis Smelting & Refining Company. He started there as an engineer in 1942 and became successively a mine foreman and general mine foreman. In September 1944 he was appointed assistant superintendent in charge of mines and in June of this year pro moted to superintendent. COLE ELECTED TO HONORARY FRATERNITY Dr. Sanford S. Cole, assistant research director of the Titanium Di vision, has been elected to honorary membership in Keramos, the national professional - ceramic engineering fraternity. His initiation will take place at Alfred University, from which he was graduated. ROTH RE-ELECTED TO CREDIT ASSOCIATION POST John G. Roth, credit manager of the St. Louis Branch, has been re elected to the board of directors of the Adjustment Bureau of the St. Louis Association of Credit Men.
