Mittnacht Ethyl Gagoline Corporation Chrysler Building Hew York City Hew York Dear Mr* ^ittnacht: I am returning to you herewith the file on the case of Mr*1 I have gone over the information contained in the correspondence and 1 do not see how the injury which has been sustained, can have any relation to exposure to Ethyl Gasoline* It Would appear that Mr* has had some ex posure to gasoline vapors* This may or may not be responsible for his illness and disability. A thorough going examination would be necessary in order to ascertain the facts in this matter* It Is reasonable to assume* however* that this man was susceptible to gasoline vapor and that his eye and chest irritation may have been due to the inhalation of gasoline vapors in fairly high concentrations from time to time* I can not see any likelihood that any significant absorption of lead resulted frora his exposure* and I do not believe there is any reason for feeling that lead lias played any part in the picture* If the opportunity arises to investigate this matter and to make medical examinations* wo should be pleased to do so. However* I shall take no action except as I hear from you further* Very truly yours, EAKjIS 1o 4 4 INTfR-O FFlCE CORRESPONDENCE' Et hyl Gasol ine Corporat ion Ch r y sl e r Bu il d in g 135 Ea s t 4 2 n d street N EW YO RK October 4, 1932. Dr. R. A. Kehoe, Dear Dr. Kehoe: Attached hereto is the Travelers Insurance Company file on the case of Mr 811 employe of an airport, who used Ethyl Gasoline for the purpose of cleaning aviation motors. You will note this gentleman has not instituted claim against us but has brought one against the Western Air Express, who were his employees, and who evidently are also covered by the Travelers Insur ance Company. It is indicated, however, that if he does not obtain compensation from the Western Air Express that there is a possibility he may proceed against this company, although he does not apparently know that we are covered by insurance. , Mr. C. P. Reid of Travelers has asked me to get your opinion on this matter. The file is rather a lengthy; one so, rather than attempt to make copies of it, we are sending the original to you. Mr. Reid has requested that you return it with your answer at your early convenience. Mr Reid said that he did not want any of your people to enter into the case at the present time because such action would probably spur this man on to make a claim directly against the Ethyl Corporation and all that he wants at the moment is an expression of your views from the reports that are submitted herewith. .- Vv'; > % 'Peeples' - ? 10-9-32 - A report is received at the Continental Oil Company at Florence Colorado as follows: A {initials unknown a nd spelling of name may not o.e correct) visite plant'about 2 worths previously and talked to Lir. ,James: ;-oyle - the man who does the blending at this point.
