On Sunday, December 24, 2017, State Representative Don Hahnfeldt passed away. Hahnfeldt represented District 33, which includes Sumter and parts of Lake and Marion counties. He distinguished himself during his 32-year career in the U.S. Navy, commanding two nuclear submarines and served as Commander of the Pacific Fleet's Strategic Submarine Squadron. As a symbol of respect for the memory of State Representative Don Hahnfeldt, and his service to Florida, I hereby direct the flags of the United States and the State of Florida to be flown at half-staff at the Sumter County Administrative Building in Wildwood, Florida, the Sumter County Courthouse in Bushnell, Florida and at the State Capitol in Tallahassee, Florida, from sunrise to sunset on Tuesday, January 2, 2018.
Please see the below statement Governor Rick Scott issued December 25, 2017, on the passing o f State Representative Don Hahnfeldt:
Governor Scott said, "My wife Ann and I saddened by the news of Representative Don Hahnfeldt's passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with his entire family during this difficult time. Representative Hahnfeldt served our county honorably in the United States Navy as a Submarine Commander and served our state as a Representative of the 33rd District. We will always remember Representative Hahnfeldt's commitment to The Villages and our nation."
