Holloway ifN I V-D JUN 6 !S53 3. n Cm * r'drti.JCJ CC; -o- 2w crvfca I recently participated In a discussion at some length with representa tives of our Insurance Department and our attorney's on the subject of_ asbestos is and the possibility that major Workmen's Compensation claims might develop in the future as the cause and effect relationship betvcen_ asbestos and lung disorders -- including lung cancer -- becomes more -- firmly established end receives more publicity. Our attorneys are in the process of raking several recommendations to us in this matter. Among these will be the recommendation that we examine the possibility of eliminating asbestos fibers from our formu lations. Without making a search, I believe our principal points of useage of esbestos are -- Paint and Joint Treatments Asbestos Cement Shingles Spray-Don formulations Class A Roofing formulations At this point vc have not decided vhat action will be taken on the recommendations from our attorneys, nnd I am certainly not requesting any Research activity. However, I would appreciate it if you would give this matter a little thought and write me briefly concerning your essinaticn of the possibilities for success of a Research scudy aimed at eliminating asbestos from any or all of the above produce lines. c
