Two of the newly elected 1981 A-Term members, Lee Derrick and Mike Burkhalter, were present. Several members were absent on vacation. The new members were welcomed and given a brief overview of HSC activities. Retiring members were thanked for their contributions and participation. NEW BUSINESS Truck Traffic - Increasing truck traffic has occurred as the result of dump trucks in the plant hauling dirt and rubble. Some of these trucks are driving too fast and are coming too close to personnel working at some i.ruck loading stations. - At the Consolidated Truck Loading Rack, traffic is driving through the supposedly closed street on the north side. Both of these items will be referred to Fred Herzog. Manlifts Is there a procedure or need of a procedure which speaks to a buddy system when a manlift is used to perform work in a super-hazardous chemical area? This item will be referred to the Safety Action Committee (SAC). HSC Member Bicycles Despite the bulletin board announcement, some employees are making un authorized use of HSC Member Bicycles. A second announcement will be made. -i LAIVI014243 John Andrews, et al -2- December 31, 1980 OLD BUSINESS ---------------------------------- / PT Engineer Procedure Knowledge and Understanding A meeting of C. M. Cruse (SHAC), Brian Irvine (PTSHC), and M. L. Owens (PT Administration) was held during which the subject was discussed. It was agreed that a training program would be beneficial for all new technical people who encounter field work. Brian Irvine has proposed a program concept for PTSHC review and comment. Ground Fault Interrupters A. J. Bolton, Instrument and Electrical Superintendent, has been in vestigating this concern, and a memo will be written to C. M. Cruse by January 2, 1981. Permanent Ladder Inspection Paul Bailey, Materials and Mechanical Technology Superintendent, has issued a memo to his inspectors emphasizing that ladders and stairways attached to vessels is a part of the AVIP program. Plant-Wide Roach Problem Our Purchasing Department has contacted the exterminator regarding the roach problem, and emphasized the need for more effective control. We have been requested by the exterminator, in turn, that thry be.allowed to perform a complete job when they are called. Often, th^y are not allowed to fully exterminate a building because it is an inconvenience to us. Unless the entire premises is exterminated, the job is ineffective. Further requests should be directed to Joe Hogan. Regular meetings of the Hourly Safety Committee are held on the last Tuesday of every month at 1:30 p.m., in Conference Room No. 2 of the Personnel Building. The next meeting will be on January 27.
