(2) Close with hand and test for fit and presence of leaks. (3) Check remaining life of canister - replace canister each year regardless of length of time in use. (4-) Check head bands for life. (5) Wash face piece with soap and v/arn water, rubbing well. (6) Replace in box properly, taking care that tube deflectors are ir,, proper position. 33. Air-line Respirator (1) Test all couplings, inspect gaskets and tighten well. (2) See that plug cap on second blower outlet i3 tight. (3) Affix face piece and operate blower to check air delivery. (4-) Check hose by bending, inspecting for cracks and breaks. (5) Inspect safety belt. (6) Inspect head bands. (7) Affix face piece, plaoe hand over Y and test for leaks and fit. (6>) Wash face piece with soap and warm water, rubbing well. (9) Replace in case, using clean paper bag for face piece and tubes. Take care that the wrench and blower handle are in proper position. C. One-half Hour Oxygen l!ask (1) See that "Cardoxide1' receptacle is full. If mask has not been used, change once a year. (2) Affix face piece, see that gaskets are in place. 0022394 2 Check for tightness and leakage. Be certain that inhalation and exhalation valves are working properly. (3) Put on mask assembly. (^} Blow up bag either by strong exhalation or opening of by pass valve. Kink breather tubes and press on breather bag with arm to test for tightness. Be certain that tank and by-pa3s valve are closed when carrying out this procedure. (5) Check head straps. . (6) Turn on main cylinder valve 2-3 turns until pressure gauge registers. (7) 3ee that upper small valve to pressure gauge is open. This valve must be left open at all tinea. {) Make certain that bottom small tangential valve (by pass valve) is closed. (9) Take 3 full breaths, before exhalation of the third breath, close off both breather tubes and open saliva trap valve with thumb, and exhale vigorously through blovz-off. This removes some residual nitrogen. (10) Vear mask for 5 minutes, and run up one flight of stairs. (11) If reducing valve is not working properly, and pressure increases, the safety valve will blow off with a whistling sound. If this persists, shut off the main cylinder valve and open bottom tangential by-pass valve for brief intervals only and leave the contaminated atmosphere. (12) V.'ash face piece with soap and v/ater, rubbing well. Do not let water run down tubes to valves unless there is much saliva in the tubes. . (13) Replace face piece and tubes in clean paper bag and return to case. (lit-) Replace "Cardoxide" in receptacle using one can. (15) Remove spent cylinder and couple on full one. Bee that by-pass valve is closed, then open main valve and make certain gauge reading is not less than 100-130 atmospheres. Close main valve, press bag against admission valve to release gauge. (16) v/hen new cylinder is connected, be certain that gaskets are in place and that both connections are tight. 0022395 3- - D. H. H. Inhalator (1) 3ee that all valves are closed. (1) Both main stem valves. (2) Both pressure gauge valves on manifold. (3) One flow control valve. (2) Open one main cylinder valve and corresponding pressure valve. Then close main cylinder valve, checking pressure gauge for leakage. In case of leakage, tighten packing around main valve about l/$ turn. (3 ) Bleed off gas by opening flow control valve. (h) Repeat process on other side after flow control valve has been closed. (5) Inflate rubber ring on inhalation face piece and breathe through it to see that all valves are working properly. (b) Put on face piece, open main valve and pressure valve on marked cylinder, then open flow control valve widely until breather bag is inflated, then close this valve to Ho. 5 or less, then close main stem valve that had been opened and breathe out the contents of the system observing the excursions of the breather bag and pressure guuge. When the system is empty and the inhalation valve in face piece opens, close remaining valves. (7) Wash face piece with soap and warm water, dry and deflate. (d) Replace in clean paper bag. (9) Y.iien testing breather bag use cylinder carrying lower pressure marked with tape, keeping one fall {135 atmospheres) cylinder.
