You will see from this report that they are quite actively on the Job and will, I believe, accomplish some significant results in the near future. The most significant points in the report to me are as follows: The dirt collected from the top of the administration building at Baton Rouge gave a yield of 35$ of lead, and you will note, on page 10, the analysis of the dust taken from various locations in the Alloy Department. It has always been my opinion that the fumes coming from our smelters have been responsible for contaminating the entire atmosphere around our lead etnyl plants. I have mentioned this on numerous occasions and have always been told that the lead content was insignificant and therefore of no particular importance. In talking with Mr. Herndon the other day, he told me that he had found 15 milligrams per cubic foot prior to the in stallation of the new equipment which is being tried out on the smelter at the Dye Works. Subsequent to the installation of the K S ' 0003656 J 3>. 2- equipment the content was 1 milligram per cubic foot, which, of course, represents a very substantial reduction. I believe tnat they are now actively concerned about the various leaks occurring throughout the plant and as a result of this recent attack from the standpoint of air analyses we should in the near future look forward to a great reduction in the lead content of the air.
