With respect to analysis in letter of 2/3/59 from Moundsville, Durrel is an ASTM method in which 40 ml of V.C. is evap. in flash to 2 ml and the change in boiling point from 2 ml point to 0.5 ml point is recorded. This was 0.15C. Polymer conversion has no relation to assay of V.C. In telephone conversation with Dr. Lester told him to delete last three items from analysis and list assay as 99.9+%. Mr. Silber has retained sample (Cyl. No. V134101) and will run chromatographic analysis. He will send me copy of curve. Solvay now adds no inhibitor to aerosol grade V.C. None means less than 2 ppm. In inhibited V.C. they add up to 100 ppm. Note that in Dow article (Torkleson et al) on toxi city of V.C. they used mass spectrographic analysis but took gas* phase sample.
