The meeting agenda is attached. Injury and Exposure Trends There were no questions about the injury data. JF shared that in his opinion our safety record is not good. Safety needs to get back on the front burner. Each department head should start making plans to conduct their department's 1985 safety program planning meeting. CRS is to make the arrangements and publish the schedule. PJK asked what our expectations about 1985 should be. JF responded by saying that no revolutionary ideas are expected but that the 1984 program should be reviewed against results and the 1985 program should reflect what we believe to be the right approach to solving our safety problems. In the VCM exposure area, JF noted that we blew our goal of 1.0% overexposures without respirators. Actual results were 2.7%. This area needs more attention. CRS noted that JLH told him we fell down by not having a supervisors' followup meeting mid-year to review the safety programs developed in each department. Sub-Committee Progress JF asked if the Operations Maintenance Lab Safety sub-committee was doing anything more than reviewing ESARs. A discussion followed in which several points were made: - Meetings won't solve our problems. - We must have more one-on-one contact with people in the plant. - People are the central issue - our people ought to be telling us what our problems are. We need to be working on people re lated issues. - Why don't we make more effective use of discipline? (The real thrust of this discussion was we need to show our leadership.) ABD00306002 Distribution 1/29/85 Safety Committee Minutes - 1/16/85 Page 2 Other AHS shared that the Safety Department is considering an audit program for 1985. We, however, do not want to fall into old patterns where we are viewed as policemen and end up damaging the program. Is there a way we could fit into departmental programs where we audited procedures or other items that would improve our safety. Perhaps this is an item that could be brought out in the departmental safety program planning sessions. (\,(4 A. H. Sather rah Distribution: JP, JWW, DEPARTMENT HEADS
