BENNETT ^^ 3 4- - ^- RE: INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE COMMITTEE - SPECIAL MEETING A special meeting of the above committee was held on Wednesday, November 19, 1958* The following committee members were present: L. A. Block, B. L. Tiedemann, H. H. Hannah, J. H. Lowry, and B. D. Kent. The meeting was also attended by S. H. Bennett, A. A. Aerai, H. L. McManigal, R. B. Dieffenbach, J. C. Glascock, and B. L. Smith. The meeting was called to review a recent letter from T. B. Bonney on our situation in connection with cadmium fumes while casting X2020 alloy. The committee was also familiarized with our Chemical Lab's findings of a survey made on November 13th which indicated another fume problem which produces a marked irritation to the skin, nostrils, and mucous membranes. After thorough discussion of the above noted problems, the following decisions were made. 1. Effective this morning No. 3 Holding Hearth will be be shut down and turned over to tne Engineering Division until Monday night November 24th. During this time, every effort will be made to revise the existing hoods and duct work to this furnace, and also the fan motors will be further checked for possible increased capacity. 2. During this period, an effort will also be made to have all of the duct work in this immediate area cleaned. 3. Our Engineering people will promptly get in touch with Bart Small of our Central Engineering Division to get him out to Davenport the first of next week. The purpose of his visit will be to assist us in our study of the necessary revisions to our stacks at the remelt furnaces used for this alloy. 4. It was further agreed arrangements would promptly be made by the Engineering and Maintenance people to have X2020 skim segregated at our dump. AF 044204 TO MESSRS. Another order has been written for a sufficient quantity to cover our additional anticipated needs.
