Identity: A mixture containing perfluorooctanesulfonate, which may also be referred to as PFOS, FC-95 or as a component of FC-201AF. (1Octanesulfonic acid) (CAS # 2795-39-3).
Remarks: The 3M production lot number was not noted. The test sample is FC-201AF. Current information indicates it is a mixture of 3% PFOS, 18.59% diethylene glycol butyl ether, 37.81% water, 14% ethylene glycol, 8.25% Acrylic foamer, 9% sodium octyl sulfate, 0.3% sodium lauryl sulfate, 3% triethanolamine, 6% sulfonated alkyl ether salts, and 0.05% tolyltriazole.

Dilution water: Natural seawater (34 ppt salinity) from an unpolluted site in Byfjorden outside of Stavanger, Norway. Sediment collected at an unpolluted site. The sediment is a muddy sand and had an organic fraction of 0.7% and a silt fraction of 0.8%. Dilution water chemistry: Not given.
Lighting: Not given. Stock and test solution preparation: Each test concentration was prepared by adding test substance to 600 g damp sediment and 200 mL of seawater, then shaken for 3 hours. The sediment was split into three subsamples, with an overlay of 400 mL seawater added to each, and aerated overnight before study initiation. Exposure vessels: 600 mL glass beakers containing 200 g of test sediment and 400 mL of seawater, with continuous aeration.

VALIDATION:
The validity criteria given in the test protocol are fulfilled, in that the dissolved oxygen concentration at the end of the test was greater than or equal to 4 mg/l, the percentage mortality in the controls was less than 10%, and the 48 hours LC50 of 3,5-dichlorophenol (reference) was in the range normally found.
