DUP 0961371 DRM0000158 Remington Arms Company, Inc. har. used asbestos in the manufacture of basewads for plastic shotgun shells for many years. The manufacturing process and the disposal of wastes meet or exceed the standards of state and federal agencies for the handling of asbestos. There is no known hazard to Remington employees from the use of asbestos. Shotgun shell basewads are made by compressing a mixture of wood fiber, wax and asbestos under high pressure. The solid, hard component that results from this process protects against the release of asbestos fibers during shooting. There is no known hazard caused by asbestos to shooters who use this type of ammu nition. Remington is in the process of phasing out the cue of asbesto in basewads as the result of switching to an improved design which utilizes one-piece plastic bodies for all shotgun shcLis.
