SHERWIN ASBESTOS AMBIENT AIR SAMPLES DATE: TO: August 18, 1999 Homer Cole PLAINTIFF'S EXHIBIT FROM: Richard (Rick) Hicks RE: Asbestos Ambient Air Samples Collected at Sherwin Plant - May - July 1999. During the months of May through July there were thirty-nine (39) asbestos ambient area samples collected at Facility 50 in the Sherwin Plant. The samples were collected and analyzed utilizing the NIOSH 7400 Analytical Method. Asbestos ambient air samples are collected throughout the Sherwin Plant. Typically they are collected in the clean area adjacent to an asbestos abatement project. The project may be a full enclosure, glovebag, or other approved abatement method. The samples serve as a means to ensure the abatement method was conducted properly. The sample also serves as a means to collect data throughout the Plant and helps demonstrate that levels are well below the Occupational Exposure Limit. Asbestos abatement jobs vary in the amount oftime in which may be needed for their completion. Sample results may appear elevated due to short run times and low volumes of air that were needed to complete an asbestos abatement job. The short duration of some removal projects effects the minimum detection limit of the analytical method and therefore the concentration may appear elevated. For those short projects the goal is to achieve a less than value "<" for the concentration. One hundred percent (100%) of the samples that were taken were < 50% of the Reynolds Occupational Exposure Limits (OEL) of 0.1 f/cc. One Hundred (100%) of the samples analyzed were below the detection limits of the NIOSH 7400 Analytical Method. See the attached table for a summary ofthe information. Note: This Asbestos Abatement Sampling was performed during Galbestos Siding removal. If you have any question regarding this data please contact me at (512) 777-2574.
