The work in Europe has now been under way for about twelve months and preliminary results are beginning to become available. The meeting discussed the relationship of the European programme to the work about to be started by MCA. It was agreed by the participating companies that benefits to both sides could be achieved if there was co-ordination between the programmes so as to make the results mutually supportive as far as possible At the same time, the opportunity to be able to control the disclosure of information arising from the European toxicological studies was emphasised. Against this background the European Group agreed in principle to collaborate with the MCA and disclose the experimented, protocol and, at an appropriate time, the results on the following conditions: a) That the companies sponsoring the European work should be represented in both the MCA VCM Research Sponsorship Group and in the project's Technical Co-ordinating Task Group. b) No disclosure of information arising from the European investigation should be made outside the individuals comprising the Technical Co-ordinating Task Group without the specific consent of the European Group. At the same time, the members of the European Group would accept the restriction on communication of the MCA results as originally expressed in the draft research programme dated 27th January 1972. c) No financial contribution will be required from members of the European Group who shall have equal status to other contributing sponsors.
