Lewis Dear hr* Lewis: In reply to the question in your letter of December 16, I should like to advise that we do want the frequency of cleaning of Jobber tanks listed under Remarks* I assumed from your letter of November 16, in which you enclosed a copy of the Jobbers' Information Report, that it was your intention to advise Lr, v.eston to include this information* e note the quotation from the letter from ir* Colvin des cribing difficulties encountered in tracing spiking points, I believe that we should make every effort to trace all spiking points, mrom such information as we have been able to obtain up to the present, these points would appear to constitute the greater hazard to health* i-e recognize perfectly too, that a history of cleaning, or a history of probable cleaning does not insure the safety of the tank, or that all significant amounts of lead have been removed, in general, very poor records were kept on spiking and it will be necessary in many instances to investigate very carefully to establish the fact that the practice has been carried out, Lven if we v?ere not making this survey for the purpose of obtaining information on all tanks that contained leaded gasoline, we would still feel it imperative to locate each blending and spiking tank and obtain the history of it and to personally assure ourselves that the cleaning of these tanks is carried out with all safe guards. we may feel that there is little likelihood of danger from filling station tanks that have been spiked in 1929,' yet I believe it would be quite essential that we know where these tanks are located, etc. Very truly yours. :vn >.-iHard J?, hackle , L, D.
