Box 91, Aberdeen, MS 39730. The company's Aberdeen facility has an annual capacity ofmore than 575 million pounds of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resins and compounds. The Aberdeen plant also produces plasticizers. Vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) arrives by rail from Vista Chem ical's Lake Charles VCM plant. ALFOL Alcohols are sent from the Lake Charles Chemical Plant. PVC products have a wide range of applications. Uses for PVC in the construction industry include plastic water pipe, electrical conduit, sheeting products, electrical wire and cable insulation, vinyl siding and window profiles. The plant has approximately 250 employees, of which about 175 are represented by the United Steelworkers of America. The plant is located on a 125-acre site (72 acres leased from the county) within the city limits of Aberdeen. The Aberdeen plant was built by the Thompson Apex Company and came on stream in 1963. The company acquired the plant in 1964 and began expansion and modernization projects the follow ing year. Over the years, these projects have increased the capa city of the original plant nearly eight-fold. In 1970, an experimental large reactor was constructed at Aber deen to develop new technology for making PVC. This led to the large reactor process used at both the Aberdeen and Oklahoma City plants. The Aberdeen plant's sixty small reactors were shut down and replaced by large reactors in 1975. Additional large reactors were installed in 1978. The plant's capacity was in creased again in 1981 when newly designed reactors with larger capacity were completed. The plant originally had one flexible compound line and the plas ticizer unit. Today, following an extensive modernization pro gram, there are three flexible compound lines, one rigid dryblend unit and the plasticizer unit.
