This outstanding performance dates back to August 16, 1983 when R/D had their last Lost Workday Case. Congratulations to all employees who contributed to this outstanding achievement. The Construction Department worked the entire month of May without a Recordable Injury or Off-the-Job Disabling Injury. Keep up the good work! EMTS Engineering continues to work free of lost workday injuries. In June, they will achieve K.5MM. hours without a Lost Workday Case. ON-THE-JOB SAFETY SUMMARY Lost Workday Cases - There were no Lost Workday Cases in May. Recordable Injuries - There were two Recordable Injuries in May. A Services Pipefitter suffered a minor second degree burn of his right elbow when he struck his arm against an uninsulated steam line. A Central Engineering employee suffered a muscle injury to his left shoulder when he fell while walking up interior stairs in Building 2000. The CED employee was actually injured in April, but was not reported and classified in time for inclusion in the April monthly report. Year-to-date the Technical Center has seven (7) Recordable Injuries with a frequency rate of 0.76 and Construction has twelve (12) Recordable Injuries with a frequency rate of 5.11. Recordable Illnesses There were two Recordable Illnesses in May. A Services Laborer was diagnosed as being allergic to grass (during pollination) and was placed on permanent restricted work and a Construction insulator was diagnosed with asbestos related lung disease. Year-to-date the Technical Center has seven (7) Recordable Illnesses and Construction has one (1). OFF-THE-JOB INJURY SUMMARY There was only one OTJ injury in May. A Services employee fractured his ankle while playing basketball at a community park. This is the best OTJ injury performance reported in 1987. Year-to-date, the Technical Center has fourteen (14) OTJ injuries with a frequency rate of 4.23. Construction now has six (6) OTJ injuries with a frequency rate of 7.09. Revision: An OTJ basketball injury charged to Central Engineering in April was removed from this report. A follow-up medical evaluation determined that this injury should be classified as a non-occupational illness. Injury Type o The most common cause of Recordable Injuries is burns. involved second degree burns. Three (49%) of the seven recordables Construction Body Part o Back injuries account for seven (58$) of all Recordable Injuries in Construction and hand injuries account for three (25%) of all Recordable Injuries.
