Asbestos Monitoring Data f o T Gasket Fabrication Building 325 Monitoring was conducted at the gasket fabrication area in Building 325 on October 6 to determine the exposure potential for asbestos fibers. One personal sample and an area sample were collected over a continuous 'work period of 15 minutes in a manner to assure compliance with the asbestos sampling procedure as described in the OSHA asbestos standard 1910.1001- The employee utilized electric uni-shears to cut sheets of Gar.lok into desired sized squares. The squares were then cut to the needed diameter gaskets on a hand operated cutting mill. The employee wore a sampler for 15 minutes of continuous work with the Garlok material. The area sample was moved according to the type of work being done. Data for the two samples are tabulated on the attached sheet. Asbestos has a threshold limit value (TLV) of 2 fibers that are longer than 5 micrometers, per cubic centimeters of air sampled. These two samples analyzed at 0.1 fiber or less. This sampling data and a set of comparable sampling data collected at the Construction gasket fabricating shop indicate that asbestos fiber exposure levels are below established threshold limits. Attempts will be made to include asbestos monitoring at this work site into the scheduled program. Any concerns with the information in this letter should be directed to me on extension 6105.
