ntOccupational Health Nurse* s Guide* prepared by Employers Mutuals of Wausau occupational health consultants was presented* This guide is to serve both management and the professional nurse as a reference for current practices in occupational health in an employee health service* Also, it will be of help to Mrs* Elliott, R*N*, who is developing a department manual*
"Manuals are important in that they spell out company policies and procedures
giving a base line on which to grow* This body of information assists in
the orientation of relief and new personnel and promotes continuity in
quality and type of service decided upon*

"Suggestions offered November 7, 1963, were reviewed end the fallowing learned!
1* Follow up on medical management of employees treated at the Wilmington General Hospital emergency room is being provided by physicians servicing the plant* This promote* better control end understanding*
2* Blood pressure equipment, Snellen eye chart, and wheel chair have been purchased* The eye cup has been replaced by an Ipco *wash away* bottle*
X-ray reports have been obtained on those employees working with asbestos and are filed in employee** health folder* As yet, physical examination reports have not been obtained. Mrs* Elliott plans to follow up on them*
This confirmation of service concerns only such conditions and practices as were observed and considered at the time of this call. It is not intended to indicate that all other hazards are adequately controlled.

4. Tracer laboratory reports for those employees working with X-ray machines now are being sent to Hrs. Elliott. A report on one Individual showed slight exposure. Hrs. Elliott followed up on this and learned Individual was not standing In proper position for protection. This was corrected.
5. So action will be taken on part-time, in-plant, medical service at this time. In long range planning this may be considered.
6. The feasibility of having the local American Bad Cross Chapter provide a first-aid course for afternoon and night personnel assigned the responsibility for administering first aid will be explored.
7. The development of a Medical Referral form indicating pertinent medical direction regarding follow-up care of the ill or injured treated in doctor*a office or hospital is still under consideration.
8. A follow-up file has been developed on those employees with chronic health problems, physical defects and those working with hazardous material.

Eiose employees working with asbestos will be scheduled for chest X rays and physical examinations in September.
"The mobile idlest X-ray unit will be at the plant in October. This is a good preventive health measure."
