The purpose of the forum was to, among other things, develop a strategic plan for State Community college and establish customised training for students at SCC with the goal of private industries placing SCC students in local jobs. Wyvetter wanted someone from Monsanto to discuss employer placement at the college. I've enclosed the notice of the meeting for your information. Since we got her usual last minute notice of this, I told her we'd try, but couldn't promise to have anyone there. I tried to reach you and Keith Miller who was on vacation until today. Bernie sieracke, the lobbyist for Chem-Waste, has been working with Wyvetter on trying to structure a program that would make sense from the business side, attended the session Saturday. He said the session was a somewhat unfocused and lively (i.e., heated) exchange of community people and business representatives about businesses doing ''something" for the community. As I mentioned to you during the spring legislative session, Sieracke is trying to formulate a program for the College that will involve community businesses. He is also working with Dr. Randolph, SCC'e new President, who, according to Sieracke, is pretty realistic about what can be done with this program. The plan is to invite various businesses to participate in thiB group once Mary Gade has the go-ahead to get involved. The actual involvement of each company is expected to be minimal, but should have a good deal of public relations value. In our discussions during the legislative session, 1 understood that Monsanto is willing to be involved in a industryeducational project (along the lines proposed by Vfyvetter in her KB 1307 and 1309, the Enterprise schools and Urban studies legislation) but with more control by the business community. I expect to hear back from sieracke within the next week or two, once the Mary Gade thing is worked out. In the meantime, please let me know whether Monsanto is interested in pursuing this with the business group. Also, if you have any comments or questions, please let me know. Best regards.
