Pyrobestos is firqucntly used .is a fin-pi oof lining for ovens, flues, breechings, steel stacks, etc. It is used as a utility board by many manufacturers for the construc tion of all kinds of equipment exposed to steam, vapor, moisture, dry heat and acid fumes. It is used as a fire proof lining for floors, partitions, ceilings, theatre cur tains, shafts, etc.
PYROBESTOS
ADAPTABILITY
Pyrobestos is an improved water and acid resistant, incombustible heat insulating material in pipe covering, sheet, and block form designed for use throughout the entire range of temperatures used in industrial processes.
Due to the nature of the materials used and the con struction of Pyrobestos, it will withstand vibration, shocks, rough usage and mechanciai abuse to an unusual degree.
Pyrobestos is recommended for general use as a pipe covering, sheet or block where an insulating material must have combined structural strength, water and acid resistant characteristics as well as heat insulating effici ency.
Pyrobestos is adaptable to a wide range of industrial uses"demanding efficient heat insulating material that will withstand continuous high temperatures, without disintegration when exposed to moisture and atmos pheric conditions where acid or acid fumes are present.
CONSTRUCTION Pyrobestos is manufac
tured of successive layers of Vam cellular corrugated as bestos paper in cylindrical form, flat boards and seg mental blocks curved to fit any radius. After forming, the material is treated to make it incombustible, water and acid resistant.
SPECIFICATION

EC0N03EST0S LAMINATED ASBESTOS FELT INSULATION
A particularly rugged insulation for temperatures up to 700 degrees Fahrenheit.
ADAPTABILITY
Econobestos Covering is one of the most efficient coverings made. It is not intended for superheated steam pipes, though might be successfully used for that pur pose. It is adapted for use on either high or low pres sure steam lines to temperatures up to 700 degrees Fahrenheit. It is an exceptionally strong covering. Its tough construction makes it particularly suitable for vibrating pipe lines. Its tough and sturdy construction gives it an unusual salvage value in that it can be ap plied and removed from the pipe lines many times before damaged to the extent that its insulating value is im paired.
CONSTRUCTION Econobestos Covering is made up of successive layers
of asbestos felt paper. A great many air spaces are formed and confined between each layer by its unique construction.
SPECIFICATION Econobestos Covering is furnished in sections V long,
canvas jacketed, for all pipe sizes up to 24". Econobestos covering sections are cut on one side only. Thicknesses furnished are J/J", W and 1" standard. Other thicknesses may be obtained on order, including 1}^" in single layer, 2" and 3" in either single or double layers.
ADAPTABILITY
In general, asbestos lined wool felt can 1 standard thickness on low pressure ste3m lir to excessive vibration or rough usage and tc tures up to 267* Fahrenheit.
For low pressure steam or hot water heatinj single thickness is satisfactory.
When used on cold water pipes to prevent sv is essential that the proper thickness be used, wise the covering itself will sweat and cause n ceilings, merchandise, etc. In general. 1" thick waterproof felt lined, consisting of two layc; thickness, should be used on ordinary service c> lines at temperatures not lower than 50 degree? heit. (Anti-Swear Covering should be used on . lines where the temperature of the water goes degrees Fahrenheit. See page 4.)
CONSTRUCTION
Wool Felt Covering is manufactured in sectio.' of continuous wrappings or laminations of rag f< an inner lining of asbestos paper or waterproof felt, as desired. An exterior wrapping of asbestc or waterproof roofing felt and a light canvas D"' the covering a smooth, neat appearance wh; on the pipes. A waterproof outer wrapping may stituted fur the canvas jacket if required.
SPECIFICATIONS Wool Felt Covering is furnished in thicknesses ', 1", double land double 3-$", in sections 3' lo
into halves lengthwise to provide easy appli Special thicknesses can be made to order. Speci. tions in double thickness construction can also be with each section having a waterproof inner line outer wrapper.
Extreme care must be taken in the application of Felt Covering on cold water lines, either in stand; double thickness, to make tight joints and prevei from reaching the pipes.
ECONOBESTOS SHEETS AND BLOCKS
Econobestos Sheets arc regularly furnished in sheets
36" square and in thicknesses from
up.
Blocks 6" wide by 36" long are standard. Other sizes can be furnished when required.
NEVER-FREEZE PIPE COVERING
ADAPTABILITY Never Fier/e Coveting is cspeii.illy designed fin |ni
Irclimi til mill w.ilei pipes In pievent (ire/mg nl w.ilr and bursting of the pipes. It can be used in places wlicr it will be exposed to moisture or the elements, and : used in this capacity it should be thoioughly coated wit an asphalt waterproofing cement or asphalt paint.
ANTI-SWEAT PIPE COVERING
For Cold Water and Ice Water Pipes
ADAPTABILITY ' Anti-Sweat Covering is used principally to prevent sweating. For normal conditions Y" thickness is suf ficient, but where low temperatures of liquid and the constant presence of some moisture in the atmosphere surrounding the covering is evident, 1" should be used.
While Never-Freeze Covering is classified as a cover ing to be used in preventing circulating water in pipe Trom freezing, it should be recognized that it will onl protect stationary water in pipes from freezing for limited time, depending upon the degree of exposure am the temperature conditions. If the line upon which Never Freeze Covering is used is shut down for any length o time, the line should be drained as Never-Freeze Cover ing will not prevent freezing under these conditions.
As the temperature of the liquid becomes lower to 35 degress Fahrenheit, as in ice water lines, the double layer 3/4~. total 1 Yi", thick, should be used, applied in the broken joint method.
The most important factor in the application of AntiSweat Covering is to apply the covering in such manner as to prevent infiltration of outside air through the joints. This ordinarily requires the covering to be applied in broken joint construction, with all sections butted tight and all seams closed tight. Fittings are usually built up of a layer of hair felt wrapped snugly around the fittings and finished with a layer of asbestos cement tapered to a tight, firm joint with adjacent sections of the covering. Stapling of all joints in the covering is recommended, as the joints cannot be made tight by depending upon the canvas jacket to hold them together.
Care should be taken to draw the abutting ends of the covering together tightly and secure them with an oc casional staple underneath the canvas and at the end of the sections. Staples should be' driven well below the surface of the covering so as not to show through the canvas jacket.
CONSTRUCTION
