Benton .gels as? not markedly affected lay temperature so that good application properties and storage characteristics are retained over a considerable rang. They will function satis factorily within .a pi range of about 4 to 10,. Solvent release (drying time) is not retarded by Benton gels, nor is adhesion adversely affected. The gel structure is .retained' after the film dries. There is experimental evidence that Benton 3^ acts as a film reinforcing agent in that a small amount greatly improves the check resistance of Pliolit fils on outdoor exposure. It is also claimed to improve the water and chemical resistance of most'films.
Benton 18-0 has recently been developed as an improvement over their'Bentbne 18. It is an 18-carbon atom Blum salt of faontmorillbnite. It will thicken and gel solvent .mixtures which include both polar and non-polar solvents, and is woownended particularly for use with lacquers. If is priced at 45^/lb. as compared with 6<$/lb. for Benton 3^. A brochure describing the product and suggested applications is being sent to us. W. T, H. Johnson is obtaining some Bentone 18-C for evaluation.
Benton 34 (the dithyldioctadecyl ammonium salt of mont- morilTohite)1"gives better gel structures with nou-polar solvents and is being used to various extents by about 800 paint manu facturers. The advantages claimed include improved application properties (brushebillty, sag-resistance, and prevention of flood ing) and better storage stability (prevention of pigment caking). Benton has only a slight flatting effect, and within limits can be used in enamels without appreciably lowering the gloss.

Ben-0-del is a completely inorganic derivative of bentonite. We havShad samples under its previous designation "Thix". It forms gels in aqueous systems only. If, is said to improve the scrubbaMllty of latex paints. Both the "oil" phase and the water phase of an emulsion paint can be gel-controlled by using Bentone and Ben-O-Gel in a single product..

brought out four new plasticisers. They also produce four standard
plasticiserss dioctyl phtfaalate (d o ?),' dli&ooctyl phthalate (DIOP),
dioetyl sehaeeate (DOS) and dibutyl phthalate (DBF). They make no
claims for these in comparison with competition, except that they
are high quality products.
