Subject: Industrial Hygiene Asbestos Studies at Various * Gasket Installation Operations
Industrial Hygiene Services Section conducted asbestos studies at: EGR Valve, Carburetor and Clutch Plate Assemblies and at the Heat Test operation to quantify airborne asbestos fiber exposure to the employes at each station. Vith the exception of the Clutch Plate, the asbestos is sealed in some manner in the gaskets used so as to retard fiber escape into the air.
Employes* breathing zone samples were all less than permissible limits for both total exposure to asbestos (2 fibers/cc) and exposure requiring medical moni toring (0.1 fibers/cc). It is felt that operations under current performance
conditions do not pose a health hazard to employes.
