The following information was obtained verbally from Roger Gaffunless otherwise noted.
Process Description: Steel plates, steel bars, various other metals and plastics are brought to the facility via truck. GT Automation (GT) uses several machining apparatuses to create parts. Machining stations include: drilling; boring mills; saws; water jet cutter; Computer Numerical Control (CNC) milling; CNC lathes; turning; wire electrical discharge machining welding; torch cutting; and surface grinding. After the part undergoes the pertinent processes, the finished part will be shipped to the customer.
Stafflnterview: Torch cutting occurs outside and behind GT's building a couple oftimes per week. The torch cutting operation was down at the time of the inspection. Mr. Gaff stated that when torch cutting occurs, there is no dust but there is smoke. EPA informed Mr. Gaffthat there have been complaints from the next-door neighbor about emissions from the torch cutting. Mr. Gaffstated that there has been correspondence between the owner of GT and the neighbor.
TOUR INFORMATION
EPA toured the facility: Yes Data Collected and Observations: There is a metal hood used near the torch cutting used to deflect emissions. Photos and/or Videos: were taken during the inspection. Field Measurements: were not taken during this inspection.
CLOSING CONFERENCE
Concerns: EPA expressed concern that the torch cutting may require an air permit.
