ITho most significant difference between thetwo samples is the am mint of chlorite present, Sample R 72-77B has approximately fivetimes the amount of chlorite present in R 1111-77A,- because- chlorite and tale appear similar under the microscope, photoratorographr would not show any significant differences between the Bsmplea, Magnesite and calotte also appear similar under the microscope. Another significant difference between lisa two samples Is tbs presence of fibrous actiaolitf? in sample JR 191-77A, Apprmdmatcly M>% of the actEnoltte present Is fibroue and can be classified as asbestos. However, nefibrouaByctinolitcwas detected tn_Eampie Apart from mineralogies! differencer between thetwo samples the iollcwiag textural difference Ls noted. Dear Mr. Gale: Using selected area diffraction and transroisBio^ electron microscopy we have nn&lyacd e series of three"bulkmineral samples. These three sampLee were designated as E-G8-79, J5-69-7S and ft-70-79. Two of Huess samples were found to be extremely otesanand freefrom, asbesfci-forrn minerals by onr analysis, The third, however, Sample E-70-7S, oontameil extremely high levels at ehrysotile asbestos, probably in the range of 0.10% to 1% of the sample. The method ofanalysis wae to take apprandmately an mg and disperse itin 10 ee-ofisopropyl sloohol and then,ultxa.sonera.tethe mixture. The larger and heavier particles in general setae at the bottom and the extremely fine particles,-.such as tee asbestos are concentrated in the suspension cf the liquid, The. results of our analysis indicated that in onnti&g 10 grid squares we found SC fibers or approximately S.6 fibers per grid square opening.
