Grange Talcs de Luzenac 2, Place Edouard 31100 Toulouse France Bouillieres Dear Jean Pierre: SUBJECT: Talc Asbestos L. Paoletti et.al. Attached is a copy of a paper which is very important to the talc industry in your territory It alleges that a substantial number of talcs contain fibers and/or asb stos. It is published by a reputable organization in Rome. It has jus b appeared in this month's issue of Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology here in the States. Do you have any information on what prompted this work by the Italians? Do you think the autfior is correct in the last paragraph of his article that regulations regar ding talc and asbestos may be enacted soon in Europe? Do you consider it a threat to talc business in Europe? I will appreciate your keeping my interest in this matter strictly confidential unti 1 such time as I have been able to get a clear picture of the situation. Incidentally, on another subject, I sent Professor Leophonte a major list of talc articles he requested a few months ago. The last I heard from him was that he had postp oned writing his talc book as of this past July. Thanks and best wishes. Sincerely, /cr cc: B. Semple, M .D. W.
