The present method of conveying Asbestos by an open conveyor belt and feeding the
belt by an open type feeder plate cannot be enclosed and vented so that it will
meet OSHA requirements. While there will be intangible benefits and reduced mechanical downtime with the new system, the expenditure Is necessary In order to meet OSHA regulations.

As part of the'sdxlng spates originally Installed at England, the Asbestos fiber
is aetered onto an open conveyor belt.'. The disc feeder, is the bottoa of the bin,
bas been the course of considerable dowhtlne, and is addition, it creates dust
Is the ataosphere as it discharges. This is the European aethod of nixing and
soae of their later plants have erected a vail to Isolate the aixing systea froa
the rest of the plant. This isolation aspect has been reviewed thouroughly and
has been rejected in fsvor of.the enclosed live bottoa bin and screw conveyor
(both of which will be vented to 'the existing dust collector).
The new bin and support steel has been designed so it can be erected in a : straight line between the turbopulper and the center of the pipe aschine. In addition to laproving the operation, this will allow aost of the equlpaent to be pre-ereeted, and reduce the tlae to change over to approxlaately 2 to 3 weeks. This aethod of erecting the equlpaent vithout interference to the operation Is preferred and allows check out of the aotors, controls, etc., prior to change over. In addition, all guarding can be installed together with safety catwalks, adequate lighting, painting, etc.
As the original equlpaent has been in operation over 11 years, the salvage value
will be Halted to aotors and a rotary valve. These lteas '.will be repaired and used as spares for the enclosed system.
