GRACE L CCllPANY Dy Frochling 4 Robertson, Inc., Creenviile, S. C. September, 1955 Madison H. Woodward, RE 490, S. C. Cranch Manager Abstract "'he test was performed on type illC fireproofing composition manufactured by Z0U0LIT2 DIVISION of W. R. CHAC2 & SCCIPAUY at Travelers Rest, Soutli Carolina. The composition had been applied by field typo equipment and methods to a 2.0* v. C.0* section of H. H. Robertson 13ga/16ga ICC stool dock at a thickness of 0.7S inches. The steel section had previously received 2.5 inches (measured from top of flutes) of 3000 PSZ structural concrete/ which was placed seven days prior to * application of the sprayed ICC. After a normal curing period of tho ICC application, the impact test was performed as herein after described. Applicable Specifications The test was parformed in accordance with tho Government Services Administration Specifications 55-17205, requirements For Sprayed Fire Protection, which reads as follows: -Sop.d Impact Teat: ASTi-I E-72, Impact test on specimens tested horizontally. Specimen shall bo a completed floor assembly 2-foot wide by 8-feet long and supported. A 60pound sand bag dropped from a height of four fast on tbs tost specimen shall not crack or delaminate the aecoustical plaster material from the surface to which it is applied." Preparation off Tnst Specimen A section of H. B. Robertson KC stool dock 16ga/16ga. i q%C 2.0 feet wide by 14.0*feet long was cusp.-.idccl over firm suspects with a clear span of 8-0 feet. Terms were set on top of the deck and strueturai-coi'.crctc, as described below, was placed, vibrated and finished to a thickness 2.5 inches thick over top3 of the flutes. The concrete was placed July 2, 1035. ` Design mix of structural concrete: 20-Day Coxprassive Strength, Portland Cement Type I Par C. V. 'lining './as dona in a conventional c-S mortar mixer for a paried of three to five minute:. The nixed material was placed in the hopper of a CTZDX-T13 CT.ICCr.TZZ, piston type plaster puap end sprayed on to the underside of tha test penal at tha rate of 1.0 cubic feet per cinuto. Spray ing was dona la two coats of approximately 3/3" each, both coursaa following tha contour of the steel. There was a lapse of time between courses of about 2.5 hours. Slight touch-up by trowel was necessary after spraying. Specimens of the same batch of !: were prepared for tests for density. C.:j application made July 9 was made inside a steel building at daytime roan temperature of 88 P. The completed panel was la ft in place to cure until September 9, 1965 The dr/ density of the nix ua: tested and found to be 24.0 pounds per cubic feet on September 9, 1965. Imoact Test of Specimen Prior to impact testing the completed panel/ suspended between supports with a clear span of 8.0 feet/ was closely examined with a magnifying glass for cracking, flaking, and delamination. A sand bag, fabricated in cceordance with requirements of ASTM Spec. -72, containing 60-pounds of sand, was suspended over the center of the panel so that tho bottom of the sand bag was precisely 40.0 inches above the top of the specimen. The loaded sand bag was then instantaneously released and allowed to strike tho test panel. The panel was then closely examined with a magnifying glass and no trace of flaking, cracking, or delamination of the MX material could be found. The test panel showed no effects whatever from the impact.,, Conclusion Results of tho test showed that the ISC matorlal meets rsqulrements of G3A Specification 6S-17206 for Bond Impact Test.
