I have recently written to Dr. Barbara Clayton of the Great Ormond Street- Hospital asking she has any information on this subject, and she has suggested that the best person to approach would be yourself. You may be interested in the background to our investigations. In the Report of the Government Chemist 19 6 % (U.K.) attention was >: drawn to the fact that a frying pan had been found to have a coating' consisting of 5b% lead and k6% tiij. The British Standards and -* British Home Office proposed recommendations require that tin * coatings of culinary utensils' should consist of not less than 99*75% pure tin. The level 5b/o lead in tjhe pan examined by the Government, Chemist was therefore very alarming and we are concerned to find out to what extent there'might be other frying pans available with . , excessive,lead content intheir tin coatings.
