REFERENCES TO 1978-1980 EPIDEMIOLOGY STUDY
Plaintiff's first request for admissions, exhibit 4: August 6, 1979 handwritten memo from Charles W. Miller to Frank Davido:
(second paragraph) "A staff member from the Center was already on-site collecting field samples for analysis of 2,4,5-T and TCDD, as well as contacting the hospitals in the old study area to obtain cooperation in the abstracting of miscarriage data for 1978, 1979, and 1980.... "
P. 2 of 8/12/83 Judy Wheeler phone notes; "hosp. reports Sc computer tape
sent to Dr. Miller -- gathered for EPA -- Alsea -- not 5 Rivers... sent to Jack Griffith (HEB)...postcard survey of physicians not conducted by EPA...hospital data request came before 5 Rivers request...maps -- all of Alsea area including 5 Rivers...
(Obviously J. Wheeler was well aware that 5 Rivers is within the Alsea
study area, and that the "hosp. reports 8c computer tape" of the study
area would include 5 Rivers. The timing of the hospital data request before
the 5 R. request is irrelevant.
Oct. 4, 1979 "Status Report -- Five Rivers, Oregon" frctn WEs Miller to Frank
Davido, with handwritten comments by Davido 8c someone else.
"Contact has been made with all hospitals in the Alsea II Study and their cooperation has been obtained regarding abstracting and submitting information on hospitalized spontaneous abortions for the year 1978. The State Health Department has supplied a computer tape of all live births in the state for 1978...This latter information is presently undergoing programming to obtain the desired data for the areas previously studied..."
(handwritten margin notes, mostly illegible: "birth data -- 1978, 1979, 1980. compare these years ... illegible."
Sept. 3, 1981 letter from Jack Woolley (EPA Office of Congressional Liaison) to Mark Hatfield (Ex. 19A to Merrell SJ Motion): "The raw [epidemiological] data and samples collected require extensive analysis which has not yet been completed.
