We believe this period is particularly opportune to meet, given the upcoming adoption of the revision of the Classification, Labelling, Packaging (CLP) Regulation. In particular, we would appreciate exchanging with you on certain building blocks of the EU CSS (the "essential use concept", the generic approach to risk management (GRA), etc.) and what it would concretely mean for the fragrance industry. Our sector is highly committed to sustainability and we share the overarching goals of the European Green Deal. Safety and sustainability are key priorities for our industry, and they are essential for the sustainable growth of our industry. To that end, we have been engaged, over the last decades, in the development of various initiatives to advance on the safe and sustainable use of fragrances, for their uses in downstream sectors as in cosmetics and detergents/ household products. The fragrance industry has a long-standing heritage in Europe. The European fragrance industry employs about 20,000 people in approximately 800 companies, sourcing ingredients from across the continent. The production of essential oils as lavender, bergamot or rosa damascena - to only quote the most iconic ones - stimulates regional economies across Europe and boosts cultural and sustainable tourism development. Our sector is also highly innovative and invests 8% of its net sales in R&D. It sits at the heart of a sophisticated value chain where Europe is a global leader, holding a pivotal position in the market introduction of innovative solutions, such as the development of bio-inspired and upcycling fragrance ingredients, the use of Artificial Intelligence, etc. In this context, you will find attached our policy recommendations to make a success the EU Green Deal and the CSS ambitions while maintaining the ability of our European industry to remain competitive on a global scale.
