Data from an eight year (1969*-1`l7h) field study for PCX's (Aroelor 1254) in flah along Choccoloco Creek and Logan Martin Reservoir In Alabama were ana Iyrod. Two ad ditional years of collecting field data completed the study. Four fish collecting sta tions were established. Station #1 was a control station miles above the mouth of Snow Creek (which is known as the discharging point by the PCX's plant of Monsanto Chemical Co.). Station #2 and (3 were downstream along Choccoloco Greek amt Station #4 was at the Logan Martin Reservoir. Concentration of PCX's (Aroelor 1254) in fish tissue were ana lysed to determine accumulation patterns over time, and to calculate the half life of tht compound for the various fish species. A decreasing concent rat inn of ITU's (Aroelor 1254) in fish was observed from samples taken in Chocroloco Greek. The half lives for individual species range from 18.0 to 27.8 months with good si at i >:l lea I correlation with in individual species. The average half life for PCX's (Aroelor 1254) lor all species was 21.2 months. In contrast, fish sampled in Logan Martin Reservoir (Pass and Longcnr Sunfish) showed increas ing PCB concent rat Lon over time. Based on uptake data, the pro
jected time for doubling PCB concent rat ion is 4b months for longonr Sunfish and t1 months for Hass. Tills increasing trend may bo dm* to the nvaMabilitv of PCU's because of transport of suspended and colloidal material downstream from t'hoccoloeo Greek, differ ent uptake patterns in fish taken from stream and reservoir will bo elucidated.
