P.S. Since dictating the above we have received another letter on the same subject copy of same being attached COPY GULF REFINING COMPANY Gulf Building Pittsburgh, Penila* February 25, 1SS6 Scovill Manufacturing Co0 Waterhury, Conn Mr. J. C. Taylor, Sales Mgr. Ethyl Gasoline Corp. New York, N. Y. Dear Sirs Last month order was secured from subject for one 8a00Q gallon tank car of Good Gulf Gasoline and later Purchasing Agent of this concern requested information as to the lead content, and also if it was safe to use Good Gulf Gasoline in a tractor operating inside of his plant. We advised our people to tell Purchasing Agent that the lead content of Good Gulf averages approximately .7 co per gallon and that using an internal combustion motor inside a building might cause a hazardous condition if arrangements were not made for properly ,veni ing the exhaust fumes. We are no# in receipt of the following request from this customer: Mr. Gleaning is desirious of having a letter, as an accommodation to them stating definitely just what risk there would be in operating in view of the lead content. The mill where these tractors are used, he states, is a full block long and a half block wide and 3s well ventilated. At the time these tractors were put in use they went into the matter of carbon monoxide very thoroughly and got an approval from the inspectors and health department because they were using a water white gasoline* It is this small lead content in our Good Gulf Gasoline that fee is< anxious to get an. expression cm The. tractors run twenty-four hours a day, drivers working on eight hour shifts Will you please advise as to what information we should give this account, bearing in mind that the information is required in writing? Yours very truly, GULF OIL CORPORATION OF PA. W. V. C. Bulkeley JPB/IlK Ass't General Manager KE 001517 3 N20472.01
