Five of the eight members were present at the August Hourly Safety Committee Meeting.
Guest speaker was B. J. Sanders who talked about the Plant Vessel Inspection Program.
Outstanding safety records have been achieved by the Insulators (12 months without an injury) and Dept. 513 (24 months without an injury).
Annual Inspection
Assistance in preparation for annual inspection was requested from the Hourly Safety Committee. The Sept. 19-21 inspection needs help in pointing out areas that need improvement.
3rd Quarter Safety & Housekeeping Inspection
The winners are: Electrical Department, Stores, Control Lab and Methanol
Contractor Safety
The new Contractor Safety Program was discussed. We plan to have reports on all contractors used during the shutdown.
Old Business
A new 4" stencil is now being used rather than the old 2" letter/number stencil for tanks. Tommy Glover, Painter Foreman, stated that all future equipment will use these larger letters/numbers.
The contractor scaffolds are not up to standard and the LP&S review is forthcoming to clearly establish guidelines.
Follow-up on consistent pedestrian crosswalk signs still needs to occur.

New Business
It was felt that clean-up after a shutdown should be done by those making the mess.
Breathing air hose In the plant does not generally have the correct Inspec tion tape on the hose.
To help housekeeping and safety, it was felt that some system should exist for checking in and out safety equipment (such as breathing air masks) and tools.
A concern for safety during incidents such as the breaker blowing out in AN was expressed. Sightseers gather around and sometimes ignore barricade tape. This situation should be controlled on-site at any future incidents.
A question was asked about the policy of wearing safety equipment (hard hats, safety glasses, and goggles) in the lactic warehouse.
A suggestion was made on future use of air conditioners on vessels that the air should be put in through nozzles rather than manways.
Our next meeting will be at 1:30 PM in Personnel Conference Room #1 on September 25, 1984.
