University of Cincinnati Cincinnati 19, Ohio Dear Doctor Kehoe: Thank you for the interesting reports and information contained in your letter of March 28, 1947 with reference to the existing conditions at the Magnus Metal Division of National Lead Company. This is the first that my atten tion has been directed to this situation* In going over these claims I find that in eight of the cases reported no claims have as yet been filed. In the remaining cases applications for participation in the occupational disease fund were not submitted until late February and March of this year. It is difficult to determine the delay, which might have been due to laxity of the attending physician or on the part of the employer or his representative in the preparation and submission of these applications. All claims filed have been ap proved medically except one which was referred for further investigation. Our medical examiner felt that more infor mation was necessary for approval of th$f claim* The correction of the existing hazard is entirely within the realm of the Department of Safety and Hygiene. I have called their attention to the contents of your letter of which they seemed thoroughly acquainted, and have been assured of their prompt investigation. With high personal esteem, I am R. M.
