Jones We had 201 employees who were given the following tests: SHA-12 Liver Profile (lab/blood work) Chest X-Rays Hand X-Rays (Related to Acroosteolysis - AOL) Of the 201 employees examined, our results were as follows: A) 187 employees had negative results on all PVC related teBts. B) 6 employees had one abnormal liver function test out of the 12 included In the Liver Profile. It had been predetermined by Dr. Kotin and Dr. Beldleman that any employee having one abnormal function test would be given a second liver profile'(lab/blood work)* An abnormal test result meant simply that the Individuals test result differed from the norm established for a large group of people. It does not necessarily mean the individual has a problem. Following is a summary of the status of these 6 employees. 1) |, " Operator in PVC Plant. On the second liver profile, the one test was normal but he had two other abnormal results* Ho will be retested in 6 months or approxi mately October 1974. C) 7 employees hsd more than one abnormal liver function test out of the tests included In the liver profile* Xt had been predetermined by Dr* Kotin end Dr. Beidleman that anyone with more than two abnormalities would be given a second liver profile (lab/blood work) and a liver scan if necessary* Six of the 7 were given liver scans. Following Is a summary of the status of these 7 employees: - Operator In PVC* First liver profile showed more then one abnormal test and the hand x-rays indicated that the employee had Acropoteolysis (AOL). Because of the AOL, he was Immediately removed from the PVC Plant and reassigned as an Operator in our Loading and Shipping Dept* where he would have no exposure to PVC* He was also given a second liver profile and a liver scan* The liver scan was negative and he had one abnormal function test from the liver profile* He will be retested In October 1974* 2) WW - Sr. Operator In PVC Plant. On the first liver profile, he had two abnormal tests* He was given a second liver profile and a liver scan. The liver scan was negative* The two abnormal liver vrU- function tests continued to show abnormal. He was then given a liver scan. The liver scan was negative. He will be retested in 90 days or approxi mately July 1974, __ ! Sr, Lab* Technician in the Lab. On the first liver profile, he had one abnormal function test. On the retest, his AFP (Alpha Fetal Protein) was abnormal and the doctors recommended a liver scan. The liver scan was negative. He will be retested in 6 months or approximately October 1974, 5) _________ - Sr. Mechanic in Maintenance Dept, On the first liver profile, ha had more than one abnormal test recult. On the second liver profile, he continued v/. to show some abnormal results. He was also given a liver scan but the results were negative. He will be retested In 3 months or approximately July 1974. ____________ I- Sr. Operator in Nitric Acid with previous experience in PVC Plant. He had two abnormal test results on the first and second liver profiles given him. Because of the variance In the results, he will be retested in 3 months or approximately July 1974. aili-- - Lab Technician In Lab. He had one abnormal function tost on the first liver profile but it was con sidered as being oneof the tcatsthat was Indicative of llvor problems* He continued jto show abnormal on the second liver profile in this one'itest* He was given e liver scan and the scan was negative. He will be re tested In 3. months or approximately July 1974, The doctors recommended that he be removed from any exposure he might have in the Lab* to VCM* This has been done. None of the above seven are considered to have any medical problems related to PVC that would require any additional tests immediately. The retest on these Individuals Is to establish a base line for each of them. D> One employee was normal on all liver function tests but his hand x-rays showed Indications that his fingers were susceptible to A0L Ne have assured that he will have no more assignments in the PVC Plant. We will continue to test every six months, any employee oho has exposure to PVC. This will Include, all operating petsoanel in the PVC Plant end any Mechanics or Lab* Technicians assigned to PVC -related work. This will encompass about 60-70 employees on a regular basis.
