TO: DISTRIBUTORS OF LPA SUBJ: LPA USE FOR HOME HEATER FUEL
This letter is to assure your knowledge of what is required to sell LPA into the home heater fuel market. This information is offered to protect you and your customers.
1. The correct fuel recommended by most manufacturers of flueless heaters is No. 1-K kerosene. This grade kersoene meets the standards set by ASTM for this use and is recommended by the National Kerosene Heater Association. Conoco Chemicals LPA does meet the 1-K specifications.
2. The National Fire Protection Standard, NFPA-30 requires that portable kerosene containers conform to the following specifications: -- Be-constructed of metal or material approved by the authority having jurisdiction. -- Be fitted with a spout or spill proof opening. -- Have a tight closure.
3. The Consumer Product Safety Commission requires that kerosene containers be properly labeled. The recommended text is below:
KEROSENE
DANGER: HARMFUL OR FATAL IF SWALLOWED
COMBUSTIBLE
Contains Petroleum Distillate. Avoid frequent or prolonged
contact with skin. Use only in a well-ventilated area. Do not
use near heat, sparks, or flame. If swallowed, DO NOT
INDUCE VOMITING. Call Physician immediately.

for kerosene and to alert users about storage and handling precautions necessary for safe use of this product. We further recommend that you have information available to your customers concerning proper use of the heaters, including refueling precautions and the dangers of combus tion products when heaters are used in unventilated areas. A few extra moments to follow these recommended safety steps will help assure you and your customers compliance with applicable container regula tions and your customers safe use of the fuel in home heaters.
