Bratsch ............. ... R. M. McCutchan J. W. Molloy An Aroclor 1142 loss to the sewer occurred on November 5, between midnight and 7:00 A.M. Approximately 50,000 pounds was lost before the incident was discovered. The primary reason was failure of a badly scaled levelcontroller on the continuous blow tank. Apparently the float stuck with the automatic feed valve in the open position, allowing the blow tank to fill and overflow through the vent lines into the HC1 drowning jet. Upon discovery of the loss, the blow tank was immediately shut off and by-passed. This morning the instrument shop removed the level controller and float assembly, cleaned and calibrated it, and replaced it. A change in department operations will be made to guard against this occurrence until additional equipment can be installed to "back-up" what we now use.
