Ogden Subject: Identification of Production Materials and Components containing Asbestos The attached list identifies those Engineering Material Specifications to which an asbestos-containing material nay be supplied to Ford or to our parts suppliers. This list was compiled by .reviewing titles and technical content of specifications for friction materials, plastics, paper products, gaskets, sealers, and electrical insulation materials. The compilation was supple mented by review of the releasing system (NAEFIS) material/part number cross reference Index, and the Industrial Hygiene and Toxicology Catalog of reviewed materials containing asbestos. Industry Standard (SAE and A5TM) specifications are also included. The Task Force on Carcinogens in the Workplace requires a complete list of part3 and bulk materials containing asbestos to create a program for system atically eliminating or accommodating this known carcinogen substance. There fore, each FEO is requested to review the list far completeness and establish a list of parts and bulk materials of their design responsibility suspected of containing asbestos, as well as those known to contain asbestos (and distinguish between the two). This list should be returned to Engineering Staff by April 10, 1930.' ESRS will consolidate the lists and provide them, along with the approved material and material identifications, to Purchasing and Supply Staff for supplier contact to determine asbestos usage and prioritised actions to eliminate or accommodate.
