On June 20, 2025, Governor Ron DeSantis signed Senate Bill 56. This new state law prohibits the injection, release, or dispersion of chemicals or substances into the atmosphere for the express purpose of altering weather, temperature, climate, or sunlight intensity. Violators of this law, including airport operators and controllers, face third-degree felony charges, up to five years in prison, and significant fines. Further, beginning October 1, 2025, all publicly-owned airports must report the presence of any aircraft equipped with weather modification or geoengineering equipment to the Florida Department of Transportation. This new law is a common-sense prohibition that protects Florida's citizens and skies. Given its reference to aircraft operators and controllers based in Florida, I wanted to notify your office of this recent action and provide you with a copy of Senate Bill 56, enclosed herein.
