During this period normal production practices were being followed and Plenco, an asbestos containing material,was being used. In this investigation both personal samples and fix point samples were obtained. The actual asbestos analysis was done by Kettering Laboratory, University of Cincinnati. Z The current-OSHA .compliance level for asbestos fibers is .^8''fibers per cubic centimeter of workroom air, with the fibers having a length greater than 5 microns. The results of this investigation indicated that all samples collected were below this OSHA compliance level. One of the fixed point samples, directly above the lathe cutting operation, indicated a level of 3.7 fibers/cc. While this is below the OSHA 5 fibers/cc level, we would recommend that a proper exhaust hood system -be installed on this lathe; for all practical considerations this would eliminate exposure to asbestos fibers to the employees in the Diamond Room. It was noted during one period of the above tests, that there was excessive uncontrolled use ci -.ir hoses in other operations in the Lrsr.or.i This can only lead to the unnecessary increase of dust levels ir. this room.
