Subject: American Zinc Institute Budget for the year 1968
The Directors of the American Zinc Institute, Lead Industries Association, and International Lead Zinc Research Association have approved their respective budgets for the calendar year 1968.
The Amarican Zinc Institute's approved budget provides an assessment rate of 82.5c per short ton of zinc produced during the 12 month period corr.tencing October 1, 1966 and ending September 30, 1967, as compared to 55.0c per short ton of zinc produced for the calendar year 1966. This increased rate along with a different production period, is due to the current labor strike.
The Lead Industries Association's approved budget provides a reduction in the assessment rate for lead in mine production from 20.8c per short ton in 1967 to 16.Oc per short ton in 1968, for refined lead production from 5.2c per short ton in 1967 to 4.0c per short toi'i in 196S, and for lead sales from $1.19 per short ton in 1967 to 90.Oc per short ton in 1968 (subject to review in spring 1968). All assessments ba.sed on calendar year 1967 production and sales.
The International Lead Zinc Research Association's approved budget provides an assessment rate of 33.55c per short ton of zinc produced, compared to 30.'5c per short ton for 1967, and an assessment rate of 64.9c per short ten of lead produced, compared to 59.0c pet short ton for 1967.
The total contributions to these organizations will decrease from $116,514.07 to $83,293.74 a reduction of $33,220.33 in 1968, due to the reduced production at our lead and zinc facilities. Attached for your consideration is a summary of Anaconda's contributions for the year 1967 and the assessed contributions for the year 1968. Should anyone be interested, all of the proposed research projects and promotional projects are available in my office.
