The aim is to highlight and motivate the ireplaceability of the PFAS currently used in vitreoretinal surgery, namely hexafluoroethane (C2F6), octafluoropropane (C3F8), perfluoro-octane (PFO) and perfluodecalin (PFD), perfluorobutylpentane (F4H5), perfluorohexyloctane (F6HS), and heavy silicone oils (HSO). Itis clearly stated that a banof these compounds will result in an unmet clinical need due to the absenceofeffective alternative allowing the same quality of care.
