I man from Scotland, passed through
Geneva, New York, on the first leg of a journey which he later docu mented in a book "Three Years in North America." He accounted Ge neva as an agreeable place of resi dence containing some good houses and a population of 2.000 or 3,000. Evidently a precedent of good taste had been established because the town acquired an additional number (jf good houses in the years immedi ately following his visit.
