Washington PROCEEDINGS AND MINUTES OF THE 22ND ANNUAL MEETING October November 1 1963 Camelback Inn Phoenix Arizona OPENING GENERAL SESSION October 31 1963 The Opening General Session of the 22nd Annual Meeting of the : Associated Insulation Contractors of the Western States was called to order by the President George Boscovich at 9:10 a.m. at the Camelback Inn Fhoenix Arizona He expressed his pleasure at seeing so many present and expressed the hope that it would be a successful meeting He intro- ducted Mayer San Mardian of Phoenix who told the group briefly about ? GENERAL BUSINESS MEETING November 2 1963 The General Business Session of the Annual Meeting was called to order by the President at 20:50 a.m. Safety Committee Report - Asbestiesis Mr. Schinnerer Chairman of the Safety Committee ask to complete the report of the Safety A survey of lung diseases which his committee had made seemed following the comments of Dr. Smith Mr. Schinnerer reported Committee appropriate that there were 33 cases in the Western States on which actual compensation had been paid for apparent occupationally related lung disease Eighteen oases were now active six were in Los Angeles three in San Francisce geven in Portland one in Salt Lake City and one in Pheenix There was no repert from Seattle or Spokane There was a general discussion on relative importance significance and control of Asbestosis It was moved by Mr. Breach seconded by Mr. Kay and passed that the problems of lung diseases anqas Asbestos Workers be referred to the Central Labor Committee for study and for action that the Central Labor Committes work out the details for the implementation of a polier of prevention of occupationally connected lung diseases in the insulation industry thru a employment and chest examination and that the Central Laber Committee include in its present discussions with the Unica e consideration of a employment and annual chost examination to the effect that such an examination would became a condition of employment It was understood that the Central Laber Committee would be concerned with making this effective through individual employer action or through Health and Welfare funds or as might otherwise appear appropriate from local area to local area The suggestion was made that the Executive Secretary keep in touch with Dr. Smith in order to obtain information which would be important to AIC Dr. Smith had offered the names of a . 5 PRODUCED JM- 83 +7 ee -n 83 ee
