Bulletin, copy attached, a question has been raised as pertains to our current handling precautions of asbestos fiber. We employ approximately 100 tons of asbestos fiber annually as a raw material in our division, primarily as an ingredient in radiator stop leak compounds and as a filler in cement block primers. This implies that a limited group of operators who charge these materials into mixers are exposed to asbestos dust for a fairly short period of time but on a regular repetitive basis. Currently, we bave these macerials classified "S-L", which imposes the wearing of a cartridge filter type dust respirator during handling, but do not require any other extra ordinary precaution. We would appreciate your comments as regards the actual degree of risk involved in handling asbestos fiber and the adequacy of our current procedures.
